bert’s Adoption Story
Rescued from a shelter in Northern Korea in late 2024, Bert (formerly Muppet) finally found his forever home with the Portrey family in August 2025 after an unexpected eight-month wait in U.S. foster care. Despite an initial adoption falling through, Bert proved to be a "completely joyful" and intelligent companion who quickly adapted to life in the States, even traveling to Wisconsin to visit family. Now a staple of his household, Bert spends his days watching football, burrowing under blankets, and using his "bread radar" to hunt for Hawaiian rolls. While his family continues to work with him on marking and excitement nipping, his affectionate personality and habit of "joining the conversation" have brought immense joy to his new home, just in time for his first family Christmas.
hazel’s Adoption Story
Rescued in February 2022, Hazel is a seven-year-old pug who narrowly escaped the brutal "special auction" system in South Korea, where retired puppy mill dogs are often sold by weight for meat or further breeding. While her companion Catnip tragically passed away, Hazel was one of the lucky survivors found to be healthy despite her history of neglect. Originally intended for foster care with Lunling—a dedicated volunteer who fostered many pugs in Korea—Hazel became a "foster fail" and officially joined the family. Now living in Germany, she has traded a horrific fate for a life of luxury, where she is a "priceless" local celebrity who enjoys visiting German Christmas markets with her forever family.
bea’s Adoption Story
Rescued in June 2024 from a life of severe neglect, Bea (fka Tala) —a four-year-old pug born in a puppy mill and discarded due to congenital eye defects and leg deformities—found her "Merry Christmas" miracle when she was flown from Korea to America. Despite being deemed "unsellable" and facing a high risk of euthanasia at the shelter due to her extensive medical needs, she was fully rehabilitated and eventually adopted by the Prucru family in February 2025. Now weighing a healthy nine pounds, the "small and mighty" Bea has blossomed into a fearless, sun-loving cuddle pug who spends her days charming her five siblings, begging for snacks like corn on the cob, and insisting on being the center of attention in her forever home.
Spanky’s Adoption Story
After being discovered in a studio in Daegu, Korea, following the passing of his owner in early 2025, 10-year-old senior pug Spanky (fka Pudding) found his "happily ever after" in Los Angeles in record time. Rescued alongside his sister Dottie, Spanky was fostered in LA before being adopted in less than a month by Tara, who was seeking a pug companion after the loss of her longtime dog, Brixton. Despite his senior status and perpetually grumpy expression, Spanky is a high-energy "Mama’s boy" known for spinning in circles, "spooning" under the bedcovers, and stealing warm socks off people's feet. Now a beloved member of a household that includes a cat and a French Bulldog, Spanky has officially completed his new family, proving that senior rescues have plenty of life and laughter left to give.
achilles’ Adoption Story
We're thrilled to announce that Achilles, a beautiful 4-year-old black pug, was adopted on July 10, 2025! Found as a stray in a desolate area of South Korea in October 2024, Achilles had been neglected and had a spinal/neurological issue. Despite this, he was healthy enough for adoption thanks to vet care. A wonderful flight volunteer brought him to JFK on March 26, where our friends at Pug Rescue of New England (PRONE) picked him up, fostered him, and helped him find his loving forever family in Vermont. We are so delighted to see Achilles finally receiving the unconditional love he deserves!
mopsy’s Adoption Story
In an inspiring adoption story, Mopsy, a 6-year-old alpha female pug rescued as a stray in South Korea, has found her forever home. Despite initial concerns about finding a home where she could be an only dog, Mopsy was adopted by Eden and her wife, who were uniquely positioned as an experienced pug household currently without other dogs. Mopsy has brought immense joy and a new, spunky energy into their lives, proving to be a loving "velcro pug" who ensures her humans stick to a 6 AM breakfast schedule and showers them with affection in her own unique way.
Bosco’s Adoption Story
Bosco, a pug whose name signifies strength, was rescued in mid-August 2024 from a rubbish dump where he was starving and searching for food, after his previous owner no longer wanted him. His adoption on February 8, 2024, by Sarah and her family was a perfect match, as they had been looking to adopt a pug and felt a strong connection upon seeing his profile and reading his heartwarming rescue story and bio, which highlighted his loving, feisty, and goofy personality. Thanks to the foster care he received in Korea from Kristin and in LA from @mmthepug until his new family could pick him up, Bosco has come a long way and is now a cherished member of his new home, bringing joy and snuggles to his family.
stuart’s Adoption Story
Stuart, a 7-year-old pug, was rescued in October 2024 from Korea with a severe eye infection caused by fly larvae, from which veterinarians meticulously removed over 30 worms. After recovering, Stuart traveled to the US in November to find a forever home and, after six months, was adopted in May 2025 by the McNaughtons in NYC, just after their wedding. Stuart, affectionately called Stuie or Stu-Beef, has become a cherished and joyful addition to their family, joining their 5-year-old pug, Cosmo, and is known for his loving nature, energetic spirit despite his age, and enthusiasm for treats and walks. His new family is incredibly grateful to Pug Rescue of Korea and everyone involved in his journey for bringing Stuie into their lives.
larry’s Adoption Story
Larry, a 5-year-old rescued from a hoarding situation in Korea, has finally found his forever home. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of his Korean foster mom, who managed his weight and paid for his patella surgery, he was ready for a new life. After a short flight to the U.S. and just three weeks in foster care, Larry found his perfect match with a family that had recently lost their 17-year-old pug. According to his new mom, he's "the sweetest boy ever," who loves to "hold hands," gives lots of kisses, and is completely obsessed with toys. He's a well-behaved dog who even enjoys going to baseball games and has helped his new family heal. Now, he happily shares a bed with his new sister, Abby, who gave him her "official seal of approval" during their first meeting.
oscar’s Adoption Story
Oscar's journey to adoption, a common tale for many rescued pugs, began when he was found as a stray in a rural, agricultural area of Korea, likely abandoned. After being rescued and receiving much-needed medical care, including knee surgery and treatment for canine coronavirus, Oscar, then known as Zion, flew to NYC in December. Katherine and her husband, who had previously adopted their pug Gerry through PRoK, volunteered as flight escorts for Oscar and quickly fell in love with the nervous pup at the airport, despite not initially planning for a second dog. Their foster plans quickly turned into a permanent adoption, with Oscar becoming a beloved member of their family, known for his signature hanging tongue, calm demeanor, playful energy, and affectionate nature, bringing endless joy and laughter to their lives.
