oscar’s Adoption Story
Oscar with his new family
💙ADOPTED ❤️ Jan 17, 2025 – The story of many of our rescued pugs goes like this: dumped in a rural area à stray à sent to the shelter à we rescue. Oscar (fka Zion) came to us last Aug this way.
In rescuer Kim’s words:
“He was an official stray in far southern province in Korea. Rural part of Naju is famous for pears 🍐. Not industrialized. It is territory for farm.
See pictures here where Zion was found – gas station surrounded by mountains & commercial greenhouses. You can feel the place what it looks like.
I am sure someone stopped the car and dumped him there.”
After we cleaned Oscar up (knee surgery and hospitalization for canine coronavirus), he boarded a plane for NYC in December!
We’ll let his mom Katherine continue from her:
“When my husband & I realized we were flying back home via Korea, we immediately reached out to PRK to be flight volunteers. We were so excited to give back to the organization that brought us our beloved 3-year-old pug, Gerry, that we even downgraded our seats (to be in the pet-permissible seats). ✈️
It's hard to imagine our lives w/o Oscar, but truth be told, we weren't looking to add a 2nd pup at first. My husband & I joked about having a grumble one day. That day just came a little sooner than we had planned.
At the airport, we met the wonderful freight specialists who had skinny Zion & tiny Chandler. Zion was nervous, making it well known to everyone in the airport. I didn't know it then, but my husband had already fallen in love with him and was starting to concoct a plan for him to stay.
I was so nervous that Gerry wouldn't get along with him, but their first meeting passed without any drama. They took to playing with each other so quickly. As we got to know the little guy better, it was clear that our foster plans had failed. After only 9 days, we let PRoK know that Oscar had found his forever home.
Oscar is such a sweet boy. When you see his signature tongue hanging out, you can't help but smile 😄. We're still shocked by how long it is 👅.
Oscar is calm 80% of the day. He loves to sleep and will stay in bed by himself, burrowed under the covers. The other 20% is filled with excited pug screams as he chases his much bigger brother around the apartment or announces to the neighborhood that he's going out for a walk. Oscar is also usually the first to go to bed every night. Even though he loves his solo time, Oscar is super affectionate. He will give many kisses, never missing the opportunity to stick his tongue in your mouth. 😅 The only other thing Oscar loves more than sleeping is eating. Any food-related sound, like a wrapper crunch or the fridge opening, activates him to come running for a snacky. Oscar also has exceptionally soft fur.
We're so grateful to have found Gerry and Oscar through PRoK. We love our family of 4 so much. Thank you!”
Congrats to Katherine, Ryoma, Gerry and Oscar! 🥰
