bert’s Adoption Story

Bert with his human siblings

💙ADOPTED ❤️ August 8, 2025 – Bert’s (fka Muppet) foster mom, @pughotel, described him as, “If you want to wake up to a completely joyful pug every morning, Muppet is your guy. He is guaranteed to make you smile.” With a description like that, we were baffled as to why it took 8 months from the time he arrived in the US from Korea to be adopted! But good things come to those who wait…and this certainly was the case for Bert. 🤗

From his mom, Elizabeth:

When we adopted Muppet in Aug 2025, we renamed him Bert, which he took to very quickly. He is a very smart and strong little guy. He loves walks and marks on every tree or mailbox in sight. He really liked the shaded state park right near our house at the end of summer and fall. He also loves to lie on the couch with whoever happens to be there. He especially loves to watch football 🏈 and begs for all the snacks with our son on the weekends.

Bert loves to burrow his head into people and under blankets. He also has no problem just walking on and over people who are sitting on the couch, as if they were not even there. Most of all, he just likes to be part of the action. I catch him looking from one person to the next as they talk, as if he doesn’t want to miss a word. He has a radar for bread, too. We think his favorite are Hawaiian rolls. He hears that bag rustling, and he comes running.

Bert loves his crate, and he rarely barks. He has been a good traveler on our trips to visit family in Wisconsin. Bert nipped when he got excited at first, but it has gotten so much better as he has eased into life with our family. We are still working on marking in the house, but it has also improved over time. We can’t wait to celebrate Bert’s first Christmas with us, and we already have toys to fill up his stocking. He has brought our family a lot of joy!”

We rescued Bert in late Dec 2024 from the northern part of Korea. Volunteers helped free him from the shelter and transport him to an adopter in the south. But before he arrived to his new mom, she said she had some personal problems and couldn’t take him. So, we got him!

Congrats to the Portrey Family! Thank you to Michelle and @pughotel for fostering Bert! 🥰
