myrtle’s Adoption Story
Myrtle on a hike with her buddy
💙ADOPTED❤️ April 6, 2025 – Myrtle’s journey to adoption was not simple.
In Jul 2024, Myrtle @floyd_warchild was dumped in a commercial area of factories in a southern province of Korea and then went to the shelter. When @gugapanda_hannagu freed her, she looked so neglected. Her fur was stiff, suggesting poor nutrition. After, we found that the shelter vet had left a needle & catheter from her spay! Maddening!
We repaired her luxating patella, then put her on a plane to San Francisco with flight volunteers Mel & Jonas on Jan 9, 2025. But then a near tragedy struck. Two weeks later, Myrtle lost all mobility in her legs. Hospitalized for a ruptured disc, the vet’s prognosis at the time was dire. We were expecting the worst. Miraculously, the next day, she started showing movement in her paws, and she healed on her own – without surgery!
Let’s hear her parents tell it:
“We signed up to fly Myrtle from Seoul to San Francisco, expecting nothing more than a quick handoff. But from the moment we met her, she stole our hearts. A mix-up at the airport meant she came home w/us, which went from one day to several, especially after a successful meeting w/our cats.
“Two weeks later, a medical emergency tested us, but we were all in on her recovery. We knew this girl had a rough road before coming to America, so we wanted to do everything we could to give her the chance at the best life possible. Months of care turned into a realization that we had to consider adoption seriously. Though we’d lost our beloved pug, Floyd, just 10 months earlier and hadn’t planned on adopting again so soon, we couldn’t imagine our life w/o Myrtle. We knew she wanted to be part of our family, too.
Today, Myrtle Smallfry is thriving—tough, smart, & super sweet. Myrtle is an early riser, getting up as soon as she hears our alarm. Patient, she will go back to bed if you need to hit snooze, once, maybe twice. She keeps up with the pack on hikes with her dog friends & loves soaking up the sun on warm days. She is very food-motivated and loves her rainbow veggies for lunch. She patiently waits for her turn when treats make their rounds between her and her 2 kitty sisters.
She is slowly warming up to them (earning her the nickname, “the hall monitor,” for her patrols when they get rowdy). She loves to give kisses and curl up for snuggles during movie time. Her playful energy has filled our home with puppy joy again.
Thanks to Melody, Jinny, Kim, Jamie with @pugrescueofkorea, Michelle, fosters, donors, and all those who support pug rescue. Myrtle Smallfry got the chance to heal, thrive, and become part of our family, where she belongs.” 💖
Congrats to Myrtle and her family! 😊 Thank you @pughotel for introducing us and supporting us through Myrtle’s ordeal ❤️
