Gertie’s Adoption Story
And the BEST DRESSED PUG AWARD goes to…MISS GERTIE! @miss.picklesthepug When we asked Gertie’s mom for photos, she blessed us with the most sumptuous, sartorial photos of any pug ever!
But what a transformation for this pug! You would never know this looking at her now, but before we rescued her, Gertie lived in a cage outdoors (see video).
As one of 60+ dogs rescued from a Korean puppy mill (thanks @bemydog_animal for spearheading the closure of this mill), she was infected with heartworm & malnourished w patches of fur missing. Her paws were splayed, a result of a life standing & balancing on the metal grates of a cage.
After her heartworm treatment, Gertie flew with flight volunteer @thepugfostermom arriving in LA in Sep 2024.
In Oct, Gertie’s new family from Toronto flew to LA to pick her up! Marg & Christopher had just lost their pug, Miss Pickles. We knew Gertie would help fill the hole in their hearts.
“Gertie is a curious, easy-going pug who will do anything for a snack. Gertie absolutely hates the Canadian cold and much prefers to snuggle & snuffle inside. However, she doesn’t mind sporting some cute snow suits. Over the holidays, she enjoyed a SoCal/Miami vacation where she frolicked on the beach and had a nice visit w her foster mama & dad.”
“When Gertie came into our lives, she just melted into our little family, like she’s been here forever. Little Gert makes us laugh every day with her quirky ways. She does this funny “dolphin” beg 🐬 & licks us endlessly. We call it “Death by licking.”
“What made us decide to adopt her? Her bio reminded us so much of our late pug Pickles, who was also a little alpha. After reading her story, we wanted to spoil this little queen.”
Gertie went from an outdoor metal cage to blue velvet armchairs and strings of pearls. Sounds like a happy tail to me! 💙
CONGRATS!
