dottie’s Adoption Story

Dottie, amidst the fall colors

💙ADOPTED ❤️ July 31, 2025 – When we rescued now-7yo Dottie (and her brother Pudding, adopted and now named Spanky) from the shelter on Jan 20, 2025, we learned they were there because their owner was found deceased.

What we also learned was that their owner neglected them to the point where Dottie had been wearing an ill-fitting harness long enough for it to cut into her armpit, leaving a ghastly, painful open wound. We fixed her up, and she flew to NYC on Apr 24, 2025, where she was fostered by kevdean.

Three months later, the Orlin Family came calling and adopted her! From her mom, Kirsten:

“Dottie is doing very well! She’s become more secure, and a very funny & playful side of her personality has emerged. She loves walks to the park and running around in circles.

She gets along very well w/our two cats and will sit contentedly near them. Everyone in our building loves her. She lights right up when someone tells her she is beautiful and gives her happy kisses.

We continue to work on her weight (those final stubborn 2 pounds that the vet says are important for her joint health), which is made easier by the fact that she loves healthy treats like a little arugula, apple, or red peppers.

She continues to be obsessed with 🧦. I call her a laundress because she is thrilled when she sees the laundry basket and knows socks might be in her sight 😃. If she sees one, she will snatch it hurriedly and then run off to her lair and hold it very protectively.

She is a total lap dog, which we love! Yet no problems with separation when we leave for work.

Her hearing is excellent, and she might growl at noises in the hall, but once someone enters the house, she is thrilled to see everyone:)

She is super smart and has an excellent sense of smell, an incredible sense of direction, and an amazing memory!

We just adore her! From the moment I saw her picture, there was something about her face that just drew me in 😃. We couldn’t be happier with her 😊

Congrats to the Orlins and Dottie! Thank you Kevin for fostering her 💕
