I’M AVAILABLE!

Hi! I’m MONK!

Meet MONK!

  • Monk is a big pug with a big heart. His tail is almost always wagging, and he loves everyone he meets. He's smart and curious, tries to figure out new sounds and surroundings, and adjusts quickly.

  • Monk is a very sweet, curious, patient, and easy-going pug. He's a velcro dog and will follow my husband or me into whatever room we're in, and he'd be most happy on a lap all day. He doesn't really want to be alone, but he doesn't bark or act out either.

  • He's been patient with our old, sometimes grumpy pug, trying to share lap space. They've gotten in minor arguments mostly when they've surprised each other but are fine coexisting. He's been curious meeting other dogs but not overly anxious or aggressive. He seems more focused on people. Monk doesn't seem to be the alpha or show any dominance. He will even relinquish lap space to our other pug

  • He eats very fast, so a slow-feeder bowl would be best.  He's VERY food-motivated but hasn't been food-aggressive.

  • He's a bit of an escape artist because he thinks he should definitely be coming with you if you're heading out the door (he will come back when called though). He's improving, but sometimes tries to mark inside. He doesn't like stairs, but he's getting better at going up them. He refuses to go down the stairs.

  • He doesn't seem to have any issues being in his crate, but isn't in it for long periods of time.

  • He only barks while his food bowl is getting prepped, otherwise he's very quiet.

  •  I've only seen him interact minimally with kids, but he's so easy going I'm pretty sure he would be fine.

  • Monk has a habit of chewing small items he finds on the ground. His favorite has been guitar picks or hair ties. He thinks it's a game if we try to take it away and will try to play chase, but hasn't swallowed anything thankfully. His future family should ensure there aren't any small items he could easily reach.

  • Monk would be fine with another easy going dog, especially a pug.  But he would also be fine being the center of attention.

  • Monk would do best with someone who is home most of the time or he could come with. He adapts quickly.  It would probably be best if there weren't a lot of stairs but I think he could learn. Monk is smart and eager to learn

  • Monk is so sweet and quite the charmer!  He's captured hearts and attention of everyone he's met and he's loved everyone too. He can't wait to sit on your lap or go on an adventure with you. If you even look at him his tail will start wagging. He would love nothing more than to cuddle up and be by your side as your most loyal best friend.

MONK’s Rescue Story

We rescued Monk from a for-profit, no-kill animal facility in Korea on February 13, 2026.

Health Considerations

Monk has Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (insufficient tear production), so he needs rewetting eye ointments daily. He currently is using Maxitrol and Protopic rewetting eye ointment.

When we rescued him, he had Malassezia, a yeast infection on his skin that has since healed. He was also overweight at 27lbs and, although he has lost 2lbs so far, he could still stand to shed more weight. This would help prevent future yeast infections (warm and moist skin folds are a breeding ground for yeast). Losing weight will mean looser skin folds that can air out.

He takes Apoquel allergy med. His allergies seem to be improving but he still licks his paws a bit. He is getting over a cold and sneezes sometimes but it’s improving. He is eating hypoallergenic food but can likely be weaned off of this.

*Adoption fee covers vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, all medical care, and transportation from Korea to the US. For more information on the adoption process and fee, visit how to adopt.
