I’M AVAILABLE!

Hi! I’m fern gully!

Meet Fern Gully!

  • Fern Gully is a very sweet, cuddly guy. Because he’s completely blind, he doesn’t like being bumped and jostled about.

  • I love how he snuggles into my neck when I hold him, and I love his soft fur. He’s a canine version of your favorite teddy bear.

  • Fern Gully has made an amazing recovery since being rescued in Korea. With those early days in mind, it isn’t surprising that he still gets easily startled. When that happens, he will snap at me or the other pugs. I talk to him a lot, so he knows where I’m at.

  • He does his best to go outside for potty and does wear a belly band on rainy or hot days when I have to shut the sliding door.

  • He came crate-trained, but we don’t use them here. I’m almost positive he would do well in a crate for a couple of hours.

  • Fern Gully is not an anxious soul.

  • He isn’t a barker.

  • He does pretty well with the other pugs, except feeding time. When the other pugs get excited and bump into him, he snaps. I do think he would enjoy a human lap to himself.

  • Fern Gully would do well with older children. We don’t recommend small children.

  • He doesn’t chew on anything he shouldn’t.

  • He’s eating Carna4 kibble with grain. Nothing with feathers. Beef, venison, fish, lamb. We switch around. He loves goat or sheep yogurt, bananas, melon, strawberries, and blueberries.

  • Fern Gully may be best in an only dog home, BUT he would be fine with 1 or 2 other gentle souls.

  • He would be fine for several hours alone.

  • Fern Gully has such an amazing rescue story. He’s come so far and will continue in his recovery. This squishy, lovey boy could be your comfort creature. It truly feels like he’s sharing his heart when I hold him. His new person/family will be so, so blessed to have him.

fern gully’s Rescue Story

Fern Gully was originally found wandering around a commercial area of factories and warehouses in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province. We believe he was dumped there after a brutal life in a puppy mill.

When he entered the shelter on 9/23/24, he was even thinner than these photos, if you can believe it. The shelter fed him, and he gained a little weight.

The shelter staff said to each other, “He’s in such bad condition. No one will come for her.” But we did. Eighteen days later on 10/11/24, we got him.

He was days away from dying when he entered the shelter.

If we didn’t rescue him from the shelter, he would’ve died – either from complications of his medical issues or from euthanasia.

Fern Gully’s shelter listing didn’t fully illustrate just how bad her condition was. That’s why our volunteer was stunned when she arrived at the shelter to pick him up. Upon seeing him, she cried and cried.

Fern was hospitalized at the vet. Along with extreme malnourishment, he had Malassezia (a yeast infection on the skin), bad ears, anemia, and low albumin levels. Finally, in Jan 2025, he was healthy enough to travel to the US to find his forever home.

Health Considerations

  • Fern Gully is blind.

  • He needs a patient person and/or a gentle couple to administer his eye meds (taken for his dry eyes) as he doesn’t like it.

  • He needs his ears cleaned several times a week.

  • We believe he’s allergic to chicken.

  • His skin can get yeasty, so we bathe him twice a week when necessary.

*Adoption fee covers vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, all medical care, and transportation from Korea to the US. For more information on the adoption process and fee, visit how to adopt.
