dumpling’s Rescue Story
Rescued as a puppy in 2017 by PRK volunteer Jackson's mom, Dumpling was adopted out to an acquaintance who lived with her parents.
When this adopter later got married, she left the dog behind with her mother, who neglected her as her health declined (she lost the ability to stand and became incontinent about a year ago).
After the initial adopter's mother broke her ribs in a car accident, she left Dumpling with an elderly friend. While taking her own dog to the vet, this friend dumped Dumpling nearby as a stray.
Dumpling was picked up by a shelter and scanned Dumpling’s microchip, which was still registered to Jackson’s mom. After she retrieved the dog, they investigated—revealing that the elderly friend had lied about the dog's safety and repeatedly made excuses to avoid visits.
Health Considerations
When we rescued her in January 2026, an MRI revealed a severe, critical disc rupture alongside a mild herniation, putting intense pressure on her spinal cord. It required immediate surgery, which she has recovered well from.
